TUNNEL OF HOPE: GARDEN CITY EARLY LEARNING ACADEMY
Students at eight schools were welcomed back by caring adults and walked through a tunnel of hope before going to class. Community members from civic and government agencies and child advocates lined both sides of the entry into Garden City Early Learning Academy. As the students went to their first class they were cheered on through the tunnel as adults also known as “treasure hunters” applauded them and gave high fives to let them know how important they are. The messages conveyed were: we believe in you, you will succeed, welcome back and have a great year. Smiles were evident by both the adults who particated and students who walked through the tunnel.
Garden City Early Learning Academy is the first Kids at Hope school in the county as well as the State. They are in their third year of implementation and have transformed their school culture with the belief that all children are capable of success, no exceptions. Children have hopes for their future and can articulate their dreams and goals want to learn and succeed. Caring adults that have a sustainable relationship with each child help them to attain those goals and dreams by providing the tools to succeed.
